Oakleaf Rural Community Network organised a funding fair which proved to be a huge success with over 120 delegates from Community and Voluntary sector. This is clear evidence of a thriving sector which is focused on developing future programmes and projects.

The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland has been asked by the Department for Social Development to make available Small Grants under the 2006 Summer Interface Funding. The maximum award will be £1,500. The period to be covered will be July and August 2006. The Grants will be available to cover • Interface Dialogue • Diversionary Activities (but not as a top-up for regular Community Festivals) • Emergencies caused by conflict/violence • Specific actions/activities undertaken by local groups to alleviate potential conflict.

2.7 Small grants programme - Closing Date 4th August 2006 The aim of the Small Grants Programme is to develop community capacity and promote active citizenship within those areas and amongst those groups of people where vibrant community groups do not exist and where mechanisms for people to participate in community development activity are not well developed.

Big Lottery Fund is responsible for giving out half the money for good causes raised by the National Lottery, giving us a budget of about £630 million a year. Our funding covers health, education, environment and charitable purposes. We are committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.

The Rural Community Network (RCN) is a voluntary organisation established by local community orgnanisations to articulate the voice of rural communities on issues relating to poverty, disadvantage and community development. RCN comprises a policy / research unit, Community Development Support Unit, Service Centre, Rural Community Estates Programme, grant giving through the Women's Sectoral Programme and Peace II programmes including Community Relations.

The Rural Initiative for the Social Economy is a new cross border partnership project which aims to promote and support the development and growth of social economy organisations in areas of rural disadvantage within Northern Ireland and the six border counties of the Republic of Ireland.
